El Paso’s Restaurant Scene

La Gorda to Open New Location in El Paso

La Gorda, a family-owned restaurant chain originating from El Paso, will be opening its fourth location along Eastlake. Alongside their signature Korean dogs, the shop will also offer Boba teas and Kimbap. This move in expansion signals a growing trend in El Paso’s restaurant scene, where establishments are branching out into more diverse offerings.

New Restaurant Openings and Closures in El Paso

Keeping track of the restaurant openings and closures in El Paso can be an exciting yet daunting task. In the Eastlake Marketplace, La Madeleine is set to open on Tuesday, August 20th. This French restaurant already has three locations in El Paso and continues to expand. However, Cinnaholic, a gourmet cinnamon roll bakery at the Fountains at Farah, recently closed after five years in business.

The Business Model of Cinnaholic

Cinnaholic gained national attention when it was featured on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank.” The business opened in January 2019 by Deborah Munoz Hicks, wife of Bill Hicks, who was a personal injury attorney at the time. While the business was successful, the couple decided to close it down to focus on raising their six-year-old son and Bill Hicks’ 2024 campaign to remain the District Attorney for El Paso, Hudspeth, and Culberson.
